(00:00:00.131): Hello, Fearless One. (00:00:01.252): Today is all about celebration. (00:00:03.675): This is episode seven, and I think that's worthy of a celebration. (00:00:07.498): So let's celebrate. (00:00:08.639): Hi, I'm Nerissa Golden, host of the Fearless One podcast. (00:00:12.023): I'm an author, strategist, mom, entrepreneur, and I love my big brother, Jesus. (00:00:17.428): I get a kick out of helping my friends and clients unlock the value in their gifts (00:00:21.632): and business. (00:00:22.513): And for the next few minutes, I want to encourage you to do the same. (00:00:25.856): Let's go. (00:00:26.817): When was the last time you celebrated? (00:00:29.379): I hope you celebrate your birthday and that of the people closest to you. (00:00:33.103): But the kind of celebration I am talking about doesn't have to involve anyone but yourself. (00:00:39.228): It may not involve cake or ice cream, (00:00:41.809): although a nice slice of cake or a tiny cupcake won't go amiss. (00:00:46.550): I just want you to think about something that you've achieved recently that you need (00:00:50.951): to say, way to go girl, you did that. (00:00:54.132): It could be passing a test or remembering to take your vitamins. (00:00:58.213): That reminds me, I should probably take mine now. (00:01:01.427): Or maybe you spoke up for yourself at work or had (00:01:04.489): that difficult conversation you needed to have with a friend or employee. (00:01:08.971): I want you to stop what you're doing and say, yes, you did that. (00:01:13.873): I know I am often guilty of focusing on what is yet to be done (00:01:18.175): and I have not looked back to see how far I've come. (00:01:21.417): The target is always a moving goalpost. (00:01:24.359): You figure that out in the moment when you finally achieve something (00:01:28.421): and you realize how quickly the joy dissipates. (00:01:31.618): Then you are on to the next thing to try to capture that feeling. (00:01:35.240): We live on if only I could or when I get this done, then I will be happy or feel successful.Your (00:01:42.087): success has already been guaranteed. (00:01:44.405): So why not celebrate now? (00:01:46.362): The victory that Jesus won for us was a complete victory, never to be undone. (00:01:52.145): You can't undo it. (00:01:53.946): So you might as well celebrate the goodness of your loving Father who sought (00:01:58.348): to your success and you finishing strong even before you began. (00:02:04.203): Ecclesiastes chapter 5 verses 18 to 20 in the New English translation reminds us (00:02:10.145): that we should enjoy the fruit of our labor. (00:02:12.866): I have seen personally what is the only beneficial and appropriate course of action (00:02:18.387): for people to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all their hard work on earth (00:02:24.189): during the few days of their life that God has given them for this is their reward. (00:02:29.185): To every man whom God has given wealth and possessions, (00:02:32.568): he has also given him the ability to eat from them to receive his reward and (00:02:37.173): to find enjoyment in his toil. (00:02:39.655): These things are the gifts of God. (00:02:42.237): For he does not think much about the fleeting days of his life (00:02:45.761): because God keeps him preoccupied with the joy he derives from his activity. (00:02:51.027): Psalm 126 in a new international version says, (00:02:55.269): when the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. (00:03:00.351): Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. (00:03:04.473): Then it was said among the nations, the Lord has done great things for them. (00:03:09.375): The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy. (00:03:13.927): I remember as a little girl that my sisters and I would be kidding around (00:03:17.532): and we would be cackling with laughter. (00:03:19.395): I could hear my mom calling out, y'all go ahead, we're laugh, be cry, be. (00:03:25.303): I got to tell you that I have heard that voice many times over the years. (00:03:28.868): Now, I don't want you to get the idea that my parents were bad parents. (00:03:32.293): It was simply them repeating what had been told to them. (00:03:43.810): They didn't know what they didn't know. (00:03:45.231): And now that we do know, it becomes our responsibility to do better. (00:03:59.996): Imagine curtailing your children's joy, (00:04:03.201): not because you don't want them to be happy, (00:04:06.045): but you feel it is your responsibility to caution them that pain is ahead. (00:04:11.133): It is what Caribbean people do and people of Afro descent and I would say the same (00:04:15.498): for cultures which have been displaced or marginalized. (00:04:19.279): That's what they do to prepare their offspring for survival. (00:04:22.620): And we genuinely believe that making them feel afraid and not so giddy with laughter (00:04:28.001): and good times is how we are going to raise them right. (00:04:31.982): I can think of instances where I have said things to my children in much (00:04:36.703): the same vein to temper their joy rather than celebrate the fact that they are safe (00:04:42.685): and feel free enough to laugh. (00:04:45.025): Express themselves and dream of more of the same. (00:04:48.406): I am telling them where laugh be cry be, essentially. (00:04:52.486): Once I catch myself, (00:04:53.887): I rebuke the words I've said and certainly apologize to them for what I've tried (00:04:58.027): to put on them. (00:04:59.308): But there are so many songs that we grew up listening to old slave hymns (00:05:03.668): that they sang to keep them pushing in the heat and under the whip. (00:05:07.069): But we sing them as if it is still our current state. (00:05:10.370): I'm climbing up. (00:05:13.412): On the rough side (00:05:16.855): of the mountain, I'm doing my best to make it in. (00:05:25.102): I could literally hear it playing on PJD2 in the morning, (00:05:29.265): every morning as we were preparing for school. (00:05:31.367): We grew up singing songs about trying to make it into heaven. (00:05:35.370): Heaven is already guaranteed once we accept Jesus as Lord. (00:05:39.889): Here's what Jesus said in John 6 verses 37 to 40 from the message translation. (00:05:46.632): Jesus said, I am the bread of life. (00:05:48.913): The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more ever. (00:05:54.075): I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, (00:05:58.977): you don't really believe me. (00:06:01.075): Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. (00:06:05.362): And once that person is with me, I hold on and don't let go. (00:06:09.988): I came down from heaven, (00:06:11.971): not to follow my own agenda, (00:06:13.954): but to accomplish the will of the one This, in a nutshell, is that will. (00:06:19.820): That everything handed over to me by the Father be completed. (00:06:24.024): Not a single detail missed. (00:06:26.586): And at the wrap-up of time, (00:06:28.267): and at the wrap-up of time, (00:06:29.688): I have everything and everyone put together upright and whole. (00:06:34.452): This is what my father wants, (00:06:36.233): that anyone who sees the son and trusts who he is and what he does and then aligns (00:06:41.817): with him will enter real life, eternal life. (00:06:46.580): My part is to put them on their feet alive and whole at the completion of time. (00:06:52.804): I need you to understand that this is not on you. (00:06:55.706): Jesus has no intention of letting you go. (00:06:59.545): If you have children and remember when they were little, (00:07:02.949): or maybe you've seen a parent or a sibling that's with a toddler, (00:07:07.213): especially if they finally mastered walking and running, (00:07:10.316): their every goal is to run away and you've got to keep holding on to them (00:07:15.021): because you know they can't survive without you. (00:07:17.684): It's the same way with you and your big brother, Jesus. (00:07:21.427): He's like, Daddy put me in charge of you. (00:07:23.629): And so no matter how much you fight and think you're grown, (00:07:26.811): I'm staying right here, close to you, in you, with you, guiding you. (00:07:30.994): Because when daddy asks me what happened to Nerissa or Andy or John, (00:07:34.817): I'll be able to tell them everything is under control. (00:07:37.899): Here they are. (00:07:38.980): This is how important you are to God. (00:07:42.122): Isn't that worth celebrating? (00:07:43.984): Hey, Fearless One, this is Nerissa Golden. (00:07:46.505): I know you already have a copy of my book, Live Fearless. (00:07:50.208): A Christian Entrepreneur's Guide to Life and Business. (00:07:52.649): It's on your bookshelf or on your Kindle, but you haven't cracked it open yet. (00:07:56.772): I want to encourage you to do that. (00:07:58.633): Read it a little at a time and work through the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. (00:08:03.315): If you don't have a copy, be sure to get yours in the format you prefer at amazon.com. (00:08:08.578): A wonderful way to celebrate is to create a memento of the occasion. (00:08:13.219): My mom loves to send birthday cards. (00:08:15.959): There was never a birthday when we were young when there wasn't a card with a sweet message. (00:08:20.320): Of course, she always wrote from mom and dad. (00:08:22.801): We all knew full well dad probably never even saw the cards, (00:08:26.482): but the birthday wasn't complete without a card. (00:08:29.722): You may not send or receive cards, but maybe you take a photo. (00:08:33.863): Or I love to keep the ticket stubs from special events. (00:08:37.244): I think I'm going to need to get an old fashioned album to stick them all in. (00:08:40.945): Everything is digital today, but some things are worth holding on to in the physical world. (00:08:46.287): Ecclesiastes chapter three, (00:08:47.988): verse four reminds us that there's a time to weep and a time to laugh, (00:08:52.689): a time to mourn and a time to dance. (00:08:55.710): We can become very good at pressing towards the next thing without stopping (00:09:00.031): to recognize what has already happened. (00:09:02.928): After the children of Israel crossed the Jordan, (00:09:06.170): God instructed Joshua to take 12 stones from the river and establish (00:09:10.393): a physical memorial. (00:09:12.035): You'll find this story in Joshua chapter four. (00:09:14.676): When your children ask in time to come, what do those stones mean to you? (00:09:20.415): They were to explain what God had done at the Jordan. (00:09:23.676): The stones became a memorial for Israel and a message to others of God's power. (00:09:30.317): Celebration isn't only about enjoying the moment. (00:09:34.358): Memorializing successes, small and great, turns today's victory into tomorrow's testimony. (00:09:41.555): So be fruitful, (00:09:42.975): recognize what has been achieved or produced, (00:09:46.256): multiply, (00:09:47.316): tell the stories so others can learn from it, (00:09:50.357): have dominion, (00:09:51.877): build something that remains after you and teaches the next generation. (00:09:56.899): Now take a moment to reflect on God's goodness to you. (00:10:01.620): It could simply be that you woke up. (00:10:04.222): It could be that you woke up and didn't have to rush off to work because you're on holiday. (00:10:09.226): It could be the fact that you have a job that is meeting your needs. (00:10:13.009): Whatever it is, pause and do a jig. (00:10:15.932): Pause and clap your hands, shout, praise God, celebrate. (00:10:20.856): Take another moment now. (00:10:22.757): I want you to write it down or voice note it to yourself or better yet, send it to a friend. (00:10:29.145): I am celebrating today because I am alive or I just passed my test. (00:10:34.471): Barely, but I passed it. (00:10:36.534): I made my first reel to promote my business. (00:10:39.578): I sold my first product I made with my hands. (00:10:42.893): Give God the glory and certainly create a memorial for it. (00:10:47.977): If we do not learn to celebrate the small wins, guess what? (00:10:51.540): The big wins will be further away. (00:10:54.102): In fact, (00:10:54.943): when they do show up, (00:10:56.444): you will not even know that it is a celebratory moment because you've gotten into (00:11:01.168): the habit of ignoring the little things. (00:11:04.090): Living a life where we celebrate the wonder of the little makes us capable (00:11:08.816): and attractive to big wonders. (00:11:11.139): If you are thinking, why do they always have something new to celebrate? (00:11:14.944): It could simply be because they make every moment special. (00:11:18.930): So today, I will celebrate this being my seventh episode of Fearless One with Nerissa Golden. (00:11:24.653): I will celebrate the fact that you've chosen to give me your time to listen to the podcast. (00:11:29.576): I will also celebrate those of you who take the time to comment or message me to say (00:11:34.378): a particular episode had an impact on you. (00:11:37.119): I am definitely celebrating those of you who share the podcast and (00:11:41.141): the associated social content. (00:11:43.375): I love you all for spending time with me and I pray this episode is an encouragement to you. (00:11:49.260): You are worthy of celebrating you. (00:11:52.583): Zephaniah 3.17 reminds us, the Lord your God is with you, the mighty warrior who saves. (00:11:59.749): He will take great delight in you. (00:12:02.011): In his love, he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (00:12:07.516): Imagine a God who loves a good celebration. (00:12:10.478): He takes delight in you. (00:12:12.239): He loves being with you. (00:12:13.840): He fights for you. (00:12:15.341): He isn't rebuking you and he sings over you. (00:12:18.563): You are most certainly his favorite, my friend, Live Fearless. (00:12:23.546): If you're enjoying the podcast, (00:12:25.227): I'd really appreciate it if you'd subscribe, (00:12:27.469): leave a comment and share it with someone. (00:12:29.410): Those small actions tell the platform these conversations matter (00:12:32.872): and help more people discover them. (00:12:34.874): Thank you.
