“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8 (ESV)
When God told Abraham to go, He didn’t hand him a map. No clear route, no timeline. All he got was a word: Go.
I know the Abraham story was eons ago but God’s methodology hasn’t changed. Faith is choosing to trust God at His word and He often calls you to move before we feel ready.
We usually believe that with more information we will be more confident and then be ready to move with boldness. But if you would be honest with yourself, the more information you have, the more likely you are to say, Dude this is madness. I’m not doing that!
I am glad I was too naive when I first launched my business to even know that I didn’t know enough. With youth on my side, I figured I should just give it a shot. That youthful ignorance can take you far but what will bring sure success is being obedient to what God called us to. Be willing to trust Him with every step. This is how real confidence is built.
Confidence isn’t something you wait for. It’s what God builds in you when you walk by faith.
The Truth About Confidence
We live in a culture obsessed with confidence — “believe in yourself,” “trust your gut,” “fake it till you make it.”
But the Bible doesn’t tell us to believe in ourselves. It tells us to believe in God.
Confidence built on feelings is fragile. One bad day, one rejection, one failure, and it cracks.
But confidence rooted in obedience — in doing what God says, even when you can’t see the outcome — that’s unshakable.
Obedience Is the Real Power Move
Obedience requires humility. It says, “I don’t know everything, but I know Who does.”
That’s where true confidence grows — in quiet, consistent steps of faith in God’s word and trusting you are being directed.
Each act of obedience builds your spiritual muscle. Each “yes” strengthens your trust in God’s character, not your capability.
When you move in obedience, your confidence shifts from self-assurance to God-assurance.
My Testimony: Learning to Move Before I Felt Ready
When I started writing Live Fearless, I didn’t feel qualified. Who was I to write a book about fear? I was still learning how to silence it myself. But God didn’t ask for perfection. He asked for obedience.
Each chapter I wrote, each story I shared, He was strengthening me.
It was a powerful reminder that my confidence and even my ability to overcome the areas where fear tries to control me, can’t happen without my obedience.
If God’s been nudging you to start, to launch, to speak, to lead, stop waiting to feel confident.
Move in obedience. Confidence will catch up.
Because obedience activates faith, and faith produces fruit.
