You Deserve It!
The parable in Matthew 20: 1-16 came to mind today as I spoke with a mentee. She was questioning her ability to take on a new challenge and I told her it was time to jump to the front of the line. I believed she had the ability to do the job despite her misgivings.
The parable speaks of a vineyard owner who hires workers at various hours during the day. The earliest crew had agreed to work for one denarius, which was a standard days wage but the owner also pays the same fee to the workers who came on the job one hour before quitting time.
The ones who had been out in the hot sun all day grumbled because they felt the owner should have increased their pay but he reminded them that is what they’d agreed to work for. He told them it was his prerogative to pay whatever he chose to the other workers.
There are seasons when all you get is a direct reflection of what you put in to your work, bank, relationships, life. Yet there are seasons like I believe we are in right now when your little is becoming much more than you expect. Some of it is due to your good attitude and diligence, for others its the prayers of your parents and grandparents and for all of us, a fulfillment of the biblical principal which says the rain falls on the just and unjust (Matthew 5:45).
Stop trying to figure out why you are being blessed. You deserve it.
Stop questioning how long is this going to last. You deserve it.
Don’t turn down a blessing because it’s over and above what you think you worked for. You deserve it.
Expect to be blessed. Expect your seeds to sprout and grow into massive trees from which others can eat from. Don’t walk away from opportunities to stretch yourself because you feel unqualified and undeserving. This is the right time for you to be blessed. Go get it.
